Tulsi Gabbard

Tulsi Gabbard was born April 12, 1981 in Leloaloa, American Samoa and was raised in Hawaii. In 2002, Gabbard was elected to the Hawaii House of Representatives at the age of 21 becoming the youngest woman ever elected to a state legislature. In 2003, she enlisted in the Hawaii Army National Guard and completed a one-year tour of Iraq. In 2007, she graduated from the U.S. Army Officer Candidate School and became a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army. In 2008, Gabbard was deployed to Kuwait. Upon returning from Kuwait, she attended Hawaii Pacific University, graduating in 2009 with a business degree. In 2010, Gabbard was elected to the Honolulu City Council. She was then elected to the U.S. House of Representatives for Hawaii’s Second Congressional District in 2012, a position she continues to hold to today. Gabbard lives in Hawaii with her husband, Abraham.

Tulsi Gabbard announced her candidacy for the Democratic nomination on February 2, 2019.
