Mike Bloomberg

Michael “Mike” Bloomberg was born February 14, 1942 in Boston, Massachusetts. He received his B.S. in electrical engineering in 1964 from Johns Hopkins University and his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in 1966. After graduating, Bloomberg worked in finance before founding his own company focused on selling financial data. This company would later be known as Bloomberg L.P. and is now a major financial and media company. In 2002, he was elected Mayor of New York as a Republican (he was a Democrat prior to this) and served three terms being re-elected in 2005 and 2009. In the midst of his final term as mayor, Bloomberg changed his political affiliation to independent. After his mayoralty, he began a period as a full-time philanthropist before rejoining Bloomberg L.P. as CEO. As a philanthropist, he has focused on environmental and public health issues, among others. Bloomberg lives in New York City with his domestic partner Diana Taylor and has two children from his previous marriage.

Mike Bloomberg announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination on November 24, 2019.
